Howdy!
My site has changed a lot this year. I could never decide on how I should display my cartoons. I had always used free WordPress themes and plugins that have a lot of cool features, but they only ever let you use one cool thing at a time. I eventually paid for a theme, it wasn’t expensive, but it wasn’t free. It had a few more feature, it had 2 features that I really wanted. Becuase I do a mix of comics and stories, I wanted to have my random comics to be displayed in a nice gallery, but then for the stories I wanted the cartoons to be displayed like a book. I also wanted an option to have infinite scroll, but the theme didn’t have that option. It only had the other 2, but again… only one at a time. So I went through a period of having all my comics show as a book, which isn’t cool if you’re looking for a specific comic, or looking for comics you hadn’t yet seen. You’d have to go through tons of comics to find what you were looking for. But for the book it was fine. Anyway, long story short, that themed sucked balls.
Today I paid for a proper theme. I actually paid for a proper gallery plugin, but that gave me access to their themes library. So now I can share my comics in galleries, as a slideshow and with infinite scroll. There are other options too, but I haven’t tried them yet. I’m just stoked to be able to display them differently on different pages. Also the theme is super easy to change. I’m really happy with it. I still have to play around with the setting, but for now, this will work perfectly for me. It also encourages me to post more stories here.

I don’t like spending money on website stuff. I guess I still see this as a hobby, even though I make money from it. I guess it’s just weird to earn money from doing stuff I enjoy so much. It feels wrong. But I’m really glad I did. It just feels so much easier. Like you can do cool stuff with free WordPress themes, but I could never get the site exactly how I wanted it. This is pretty much what I want and it was done in minutes.
Anyway, I know that was a long ramble and I didn’t mention anything really cartoon related. So here’s my update. I’ve been writing more of the Daveman story. I know the story, but I just don’t know the best way to show it. I’ve been faffing with nice backgrounds and stuff but I need to get going with the story.
Other news, I sold a cartoon to a big paper here in the U.K. Although I don’t enjoy single panels nearly as much as multi panels, they are way easier to sell to publications. I’m considering putting a single panel section here on the site. We’ll see how it goes. It’s quite hectic, you have to fill out these forms and sign that you won’t take bribes and they ask if you work for the government and shit. But like, as a cartoonist, I drew the cartoon for money, I’d draw anything for money. What’s the difference between drawing for money and drawing for a bribe? I guess it applies more to journalists and they’re just too lazy to create 2 forms.

That’s about all for now. I’ve got a few cartoons to finish off for tomorrow and then I’ll get back to Daveman.
